Before Class: Teacher will format video from YouTube so it can be available for students to watch on campus. During Class:
Time
Instructional Activities
5 minutes
Students will watch the video “A STEM Education: Tools to Change the World” and take notes on important key points.
Teacher will lead a class discussion on how the White House feels about the importance of a STEM education. Students will share which key points they think were the most important, write them on a post it and place them on a sheet of chart paper.
25-30 minutes
Students will choose two points from the chart paper and create a mind map that shares at least three supporting details for each.
5-10 minutes
Students will make a list of as many careers in the field of STEM that they can think of.
Notes: Students do not have to choose their own identified point when deciding on which to use on their mind map.
On-going Assessments: Teacher will monitor and assist throughout to ensure that students are staying on task and to answer any questions that students may have as to how to complete the assignment.
Accommodations: Additional time and assistance will be given to students as needed.
Lesson Reflections/Notes: Students will reflect on how having STEM education more in today’s education system will have an impact on the future and how things would be different now if it was implemented earlier.
